Choosing a degree is about finding the right space for your skills, interests, and ambitions. At MetStudios, our undergraduate programmes in Games Design & Development and Games Art & Technology each offer distinct pathways into creative industries. Here’s a closer look at what sets them apart, and the kind of student who might feel most at home in each.

BA (Hons) Games Design & Development

This course is built around a ‘play first’ philosophy — learning by making, testing, and refining ideas. Students explore storytelling, mechanics, prototyping, and the wider culture of games while collaborating with peers from art and technology courses. By graduation, you’ll have a broad grasp of the full development cycle and a network of real industry connections through guest talks and live briefs.

Who’s it for?

Games Design & Development is ideal for creative thinkers who love experimenting, building worlds, and connecting narrative with gameplay.  If you’re interested in shaping how games are played and experienced, this course is a great match.

BA (Hons) Games Art & Technology

This course blends artistry with technical skill, training students in 2D and 3D workflows, materials, shaders, and real-time tools. While it also embraces a ‘play-first’ mindset, the focus is on visual storytelling and production quality.  be designing characters, environments, and assets while mastering the pipelines used across games, film, and beyond.

Who’s it for?

Games Art & Technology is the course for visually driven creators who want to shape the look and feel of a game, tech-curious artists fascinated by shaders, modelling, and new digital workflows, and portfolio builders keen to graduate with professional, production-ready work.

So, the real question is: are you a designer or an artist?

Whichever path you choose, you’ll be joining a community built to help you experiment, collaborate, and launch a career in the industries you love.
