We are excited to announce that MetStudios Brighton’s Games Art and Technology and Games Design and Development courses have been awarded Unreal Academic Partner status by Epic Games.
Unreal Engine, created by Epic Games, leads the charge in real-time 3D creation. Powering everything from blockbuster titles to groundbreaking indie projects, it offers a state-of-the-art toolkit for crafting stunning virtual worlds and immersive interactive experiences.
Our partnership marks an exciting leap forward, fuelling innovation and redefining what’s possible at the edge of creativity.
Strengthening our industry credentials
This recognition follows a detailed application process led by Course Leader Alec Chalmers, highlighting the strength of course delivery and Unreal Engine integration in the classroom.
This achievement places our Brighton provision within Epic’s Academic Partner network. This network includes institutions that deliver high-quality learning, supported by experienced staff and strong integration of Unreal Engine across their courses.
This milestone marks a powerful endorsement of our courses – elevating their reputation and reaffirming their vital role in today’s fast-evolving games and real-time 3D industries.
Preparing students for the future of games
The partnership application process involved mapping how Unreal Engine is used across both courses, demonstrating how it supports student learning, and showing how the curriculum meets industry expectations. Lecturer Alec Chalmers led this work, coordinating the submission and presenting a clear case for the quality and relevance of the Brighton provision.
“This partnership is a major step for our Brighton games provision. I worked to secure Unreal Academic Partner status for both Games Art and Games Design by evidencing the strength of our curriculum, our use of Unreal Engine in teaching, and the value this brings to students. It is a clear sign that our courses are aligned with contemporary industry practice and serious about preparing graduates for the future of games and real-time 3D.”
– Alec Chalmers

This recognition from Epic Games solidifies that our courses are built with industry in mind. It means students gain hands-on experience with professional tools, develop relevant skills, and graduate ready to take their next step in the games industry.
